Below you will find an overview of the most common ways to travel to Heidelberg. Please note that delays and diversions may occur due to service cancellations or route closures.

Getting to Heidelberg
by plane:
- Frankfurt/Main Airport (approx. 90 km away): Transfer by shuttle service, long-distance bus, or train
- Hahn Airport (approx. 150 km away): Transfer by bus and train
- Stuttgart Airport (approx. 125 km away): Transfer by shuttle service, long-distance bus, or train
- Mannheim Airport (approx. 20 km away): Transfer by public transport
- Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (approx. 90 km away): Transfer by bus and train
By Train:
- Heidelberg Central Station (IC/ICE/EC station)
- Heidelberg Old Town (regional and suburban trains)
- Heidelberg Weststadt-Südstadt (regional and suburban trains)
- Heidelberg Pfaffengrund/Wieblingen (regional and suburban trains)
BY LONG-DISTANCE BUS
- Heidelberg Central Station: Alte Eppelheimer Street / Emil-Maier-Street
BY Car:
- Highways: A 5, A 6, A 656
- Federal highways: B 3, B 37
Arrival in Heidelberg (Old Town)
By public transport from Heidelberg Central Station:
- Take bus line 33 or 35 towards Bismarckplatz and continue to Universitätsplatz.
- Take tram lines 5 or 22 to Bismarckplatz and then bus lines 29 or 33 to Universitätsplatz.
- Take bus lines BRN 735 and BRN 755 to the Marstallstraße stop and walk a few minutes to reach Universitätsplatz.
Coming by car from the highway (A 656):
Take the A 656 to Heidelberg, exit shortly before the end of the highway in the direction of Heidelberg Central Station. pass the central station in the direction of the castle, and follow the Kurfürstenanlage via the Römerkreis to Adenauerplatz. Then drive straight through the Gaisberg tunnel via the Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage (in the direction of the castle). Parking is available in the old town in parking garages; it is best to follow the parking guidance systems.
Coming by car from Neckargemünd (B 37):
At Karlstor, turn left into the Schloßberg tunnel towards the city center/castle. Parking is available in parking garages in the old town; it is best to follow the parking guidance system.
By car from the south coming from Leimen (B 3):
From the B 3, take the L 594 towards “Heidelberg-Zentrum/Altstadt” via Römerstraße or Karlsruher Straße and Rohrbacher Straße to Adenauerplatz. At Adenauerplatz, keep right through the Gaisberg tunnel via Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage (towards the castle). Parking is available in the old town in parking garages; it is best to follow the parking guidance systems.
By car from the north coming from Weinheim (B 3):
Take the B 3 south towards Heidelberg to Hans-Thoma-Platz, then keep left and continue on the B 3 over the Neckar River. After the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke bridge
- either turn right immediately onto the B 37 along the Neckar river towards Schlierbach/Neckargemünd.
- or continue to Adenauerplatz, then keep left and go through the Gaisberg Tunnel via Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage towards the castle.
