Applications for a Germany Scholarship for the winter semester 2022 | 2023 will probably be possible again from July 15 - August 31, 2022.

Who can apply for a germany scholarship?

You can apply for the Germany Scholarship if you belong to one of the following categories:

  • New students who would like to begin their studies at Heidelberg University in the winter semester,
  • Students who want to transfer to Heidelberg University in a higher semester or begin a Master's degree programme in the winter semester,
  • Students enrolled at Heidelberg University (except for short-term students, doctoral students, students in the preliminary induction German course or the preparatory course (Studienkolleg)).

Anyone receiving aptitude or performance-based financial support of 30 euros or more per month on average cannot receive a Germany Scholarship, even if approved. You can still apply for a Germany Scholarship if you are receiving other support in the amount specified above, but if approved, you must choose one or the other. Since BAföG is income-related, it is not considered as another support.
Note: New and continuing medical informatics students apply at Heilbronn University for the Germany Scholarship.

HOW TO APPLY for a germany scholarship?

Applications must be submitted in electronic and written form. You can apply online by using the respective application form via a link on this website, in due course. Your application is usually made for a funding period of two semesters. Please note that all your information in the online application has to be as of the beginning of the respected funding period (e.g. number of subject-related semesters or university semesters, performance records). To complete the application, a signed print-out of the online application and the following documents must be received by the university no later than the end of the application period. A certified translation into German or English is required for any application documents not written in German or English.

Please note the following steps when applying for a germany scholaship:

  1. Registration for the online application portal during the application period*.

  2. Complete online application and send by the end of the application period*.

  3. Print out and sign the online application form and send it along with necessary records and certificates to Heidelberg University | University Administration | Division 8 | Department 8.2 | Seminarstr. 2 | 69117 Heidelberg by the end oft he application period* (the receipt stamp date applies).

* Applications are possible within the application period advertised on the website. The application period can be postponed for important reasons, especially if no or insufficient scholarship funds available or if the organized study operations are delayed.

THESE DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED

Please make sure to hand in the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae in table form
  • For new students and undergraduate students in their second subject-related semester, the record of their university entrance qualification; foreign certificates require a copy of the original certificate (with final grade), an official translation in German or English and if available a conversion to the German grading system, one copy each, (if you don't have a conversion to the German grading system, please submit only your diploma incl. an official translation. Our colleagues of the international office will transfer your grades.)
  • If available, a copy of the first university diploma (must include the final grade), or if this is not yet available, a copy of a temporary certificate of the final grade. Diplomas of foreign universities require a copy of the original certificate (with final grade), an official translation in German or English and if available a conversion to the German grading system, one copy each, (if you don't have a conversion to the German grading system, please submit only your diploma incl. an official translation. Our colleagues of the international office will transfer your grades.)
  • One copy each of verification of specially recognised activities per § 6 (2) voluntary engagement, completed voluntary internships, completed professional training, study-accompanying employment, prizes, awards, or other special family or personal circumstances to be taken into consideration in the selection process according to § 6 (2)
  • A current enrolment certificate  for the upcoming winter semester or a copy of the notification of admission  for the upcoming winter semester
  • For students in their third subject-related semester (at the time of the start of the application period)  or higher, provide proof of your current performance, current date: Usually the overall grade average is provided by submitting performance records (e.g. transcript of records, overview of grades). There are different regulations for the following degree programmes:
    • Human medicine

      Pre-clinical stage
      Qualified overall certificate including information on the percentile ranks achieved (Heidelberg Faculty) or the semester ranking (Mannheim Faculty)

      Transition from pre-clinical to clinical stage
      Qualified overall certificate including information on the percentile ranks achieved (Heidelberg Faculty) or the semester ranking (Mannheim Faculty) and copies of the certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Ärztlichen Prüfung” (first stage of the medical state examination) including notification of results

      Clinical stage
      Overall certificate including the results in the clinical stage as well as copies of the certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Ärztlichen Prüfung” (first stage of the medical state examination) including notification of results

    • Dentistry (old degree programme rules and regulations - if studies were taken up before winter semester 2021 | 2022)

      Pre-clinical stage
      Qualified overall certificate including information on the percentile ranks achieved and, after the 3rd-semester, a copy of the certificate “Zeugnis über die Naturwissenschaftliche Vorprüfung” (preliminary examination in the natural sciences) and additionally, after the 5th-semester, performance records for “Kursus der Technischen Propädeutik” and “Phantomkurs I der Zahnersatzkunde”

      Transition from pre-clinical to clinical stage
      Qualified overall certificate including information on the percentile ranks achieved, a copy of the certificate “Zeugnis über die Naturwissenschaftliche Vorprüfung” (preliminary examination in the natural sciences), performance records for “Kursus der Technische Propädeutik” and “Phantomkurs I der Zahnersatzkunde” as well as a copy of the certificate “Zeugnis über die Zahnärztiche Vorprüfung” (preliminary examination in dentistry)

      Clinical stage
      Overall certificate including the results in the clinical stage and a copy of the certificate “Zeugnis über die Zahnärztliche Vorprüfung” (preliminary examination in dentistry) and “Zeugnis über die Naturwissenschaftliche Vorprüfung” (preliminary examination in the natural sciences)

    • Dentistry (new degree programme rules and regulations - if studies were taken up from winter semester 2021 | 2022)
      Pre-clinical stage I
      Qualified overall certificate (pre-clinical studies I) including information on the percentile ranks achieved and, after the 3rd-semester, performance records for the internship “Berufsfelderkundung” and additionally, after the 4th-semester, for the internship “Zahnmedizinische Propädeutik mit Schwerpunkt Präventive Zahnheilkunde” and “Zahnmedizinische Propädeutik mit Schwerpunkt Dentale Technologie”

      Transition from the pre-clinical stage I to the pre-clinical stage II
      Qualified overall certificate (pre-clinical stage I) including information on the percentile ranks achieved and copies of the certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung” (first stage of the dental state examination) including notification of results

      Pre-clinical stage II
      Qualified overall certificate (pre-clinical stage I) including information on the percentile ranks achieved, an overall certificate (pre-clinical stage II) as well as copies of the certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung” (first stage of the dental state examination) including notification of results

      Transition from the pre-clinical stage II to the clinical stage
      Qualified overall certificate (pre-clinical stage I) including information on the percentile ranks achieved, an overall certificate (pre-clinical stage II) and copies of the certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung” (first stage of the dental state examination) including notification of results and the certificate “Zeugnis über den Zweiten Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung” (second stage of the dental state examination) including notification of results

      Clinical stage
      Overall certificate including the results in the clinical stage and copies of the certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung” (first stage of the dental state examination) including notification of results and “Zeugnis über den Zweiten Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung” (second stage of the dental state examination) including notification of results

    • Law
      Law students submit verification by specifying their average number of points.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION – GOOD TO KNOW

The written online application documents must be received by Heidelberg University during the application period from July 15th to August 31st (date received stamp applies). If the enrolment or study certificate, notification of admission, first university diploma, certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Ärztlichen Prüfung”, (including notification of results), certificate “Zeugnis über die Naturwissenschaftliche Vorprüfung”, certificate “Zeugnis der Zahnärztlichen Vorprüfung”, certificate “Zeugnis über den Ersten Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Vorprüfung” (including notification of results), certificate “Zeugnis über den Zweiten Abschnitt der Ärztlichen Prüfung” (including notification of results) or the performance records for “Kursus der Technischen Propädeutik” or “Phantomkurs I der Zahnersatzkunde” are not available by the end of the application period, copies must be submitted until the end of the respective deadline (October 15th).

If there is evidence of other achievements from the summer semester that can be considered in accordance with § 6 (1) No. 3 of the bylaws but is not available until the end of the application period, these achievements can also be submitted until the respective deadline (October 15th).
