Selection criteria
For new students and undergraduate students in their second subject-related semester: overall grade average on the university entrance qualification or
for students in the master degree programme / second degriee programme in the first and second subject-related semester: final grade of completed degree programme or
for students in the third subject-related semester or higher: previous academic accomplishments, especially the results of an orientation exam, intermediate exam, pre-degree exam, “Erster Abschnitt der Ärztlichen Prüfung” (first stage of the medical state examination), “Naturwissenschaftliche Vorprüfung” (intermediate science examination), “Zahnärztliche Vorprüfung” (intermediate dentistry examination), “Erster Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung“ (first stage of the dental state examination) or “Zweiter Abschnitt der Zahnärztlichen Prüfung” (second stage of the dental state examination).
Other considerations in evaluating the overall potential of the applicant include:
- Special achievements such as awards and prizes
- Completion of professional training
- Voluntary internships
- A volunteer activity over a longer period of time, especially for a societal, social, higher-education or political cause
- Special personal or family circumstances, especially if the applicant has a chronic illness or disability; is raising children, especially as a single parent; is caring for immediate family members; has lost one or both parents; has course-related employment; is employed in the family business; or has a non-academic or migrant background.
The various selection criteria are weighted as follows:
- 60% for academic performance
- 20% for personal and family circumstances such as disability or chronic illness or family obligations
- 20% for volunteer work, awards, voluntary internships or completed professional training
Scholarship selection committee
Members of the scholarship selection committee include:
- The president of the university or his or her appointed representative (as committee chair)
- Three deans of study or their appointed representatives
- The Equal Opportunities Commissioner
- Three professors
- One academic staff member
- Two students
