A university entrance qualification is the prerequisite for enrolling in a Bachelor’s/state examination degree programme at a German university. Depending on your nationality, desired degree and the chosen subject, you may be subject to additional admission and course requirements.

University entrance qualification

A university entrance qualification enables students to enrol in Bachelor’s/state examination degree programme at an institution of higher education. The most common type is the Abitur (higher education entrance qualification) from a general Gymnasium. However, there are other types of university entrance qualification as well as different ways to achieve them.

All Master’s degree programmes at Heidelberg University are access-restricted and some are additionally admission-restricted. These restrictions are stipulated in the admission regulations and may include such prerequisites as above-average examination grades in the undergraduate degree programme or specific professional experience.

Many degree programmes require that you have some level of proficiency in modern and classical languages in order to enrol for the degree programme. Additional qualifications may be required for certain subjects. Information on these requirements can be found in the respective selection regulations/admission regulations and in the examination and degree programme rules and regulations.
