Course Content
To prepare students for a teaching career, the Master of Education in French combines fundamental specialised knowledge in the areas of French literature, linguistics, and cultural studies with instruction in the specialised didactics of these subjects.
The guiding principle behind this intertwining of specialised knowledge and specialised didactics is the conviction that the acquisition of scholarly knowledge and skills is essential for the development of the personal characteristics required of a teacher. The specialised didactics component of the degree programme focusses on the classroom-oriented processing of the specialised knowledge obtained in the Master of Education degree programme.
This instruction is complemented by language practice, the objective of which is the expansion of active and passive language skills obtained during the Bachelor’s degree in French with the teaching degree option.
Course Structure
The theory and methodology modules in the degree programme comprise 18 credits (CP). The specialised didactics modules comprise 13 CP, 5 of which are reserved for preparation and follow-up of the practical semester.
The Blended Module is the point of intersection between theory and methodology and specialised didactics:
Dependent upon the courses being offered, this module will consist either of two courses with related content or of a single course with components from both areas, whereby a variety of teaching and learning formats, from traditional seminars to project work, may be employed. The version of the degree programme selected (A, B, C, or D) will be determined by the number of CPs earned in the completed Blended Module, which, depending upon the format of the module, may be 6, 8, or 10 CP. The selection of purely specialised knowledge and purely specialised didactics modules and the number of CPs earned in each will therefore be determined by the number of credits earned in the Blended Module. This results in four different modular versions of the degree programme for students who begin studies in the winter semester and four further variations, which differ in the sequencing of the modules, for students who begin their studies in the summer semester.
Detailed information on the modules of the individual versions as well as further information on degree programme organisation may be found in the module handbook.
The Master's thesis may be completed in either of the two degree programme subjects, or, alternatively, in Education Studies; it comprises 15 CP. No additional oral or written final examination is required in the French degree programme component.
