Dormitories of the student services organisation (Studierendenwerk)

The Heidelberg student services organisation (Studierendenwerk) maintains more than 50 dormitories in Heidelberg and adjacent municipalities, totalling about 3,300 rooms and flats. About one third of them are vacated at the start of each semester. Students with health impairments receive priority in the allocation of rooms. There are some accessible rooms.

You can apply on the website of the Heidelberg student services organisation (Studierendenwerk).

Submit a copy of your disabled person’s ID (GdB of at least 50%) or a medical certificate stating the type and scope of your disability when applying for a dorm room. Preferential admission will not be possible without these. However, demand is often greater than the available living space and not all needs can be met at all times.
After registering online, it may be a good idea to visit the respective case worker in person during their office hours. The dormitory administration at Marstallhof 1 is not accessible, however. Meetings at the InfoCenter in the Triplex refectory can be arranged by phone at need.

If you need a room that is suitable for wheelchairs or otherwise handicapped accessible, you should apply as soon as possible (approx. 6 months before you get your Abitur (higher education entrance qualification)) and come to Heidelberg once in advance to determine the situation on site in person.

For more information on the dormitories, please contact the relevant contact at the student services organisation (Studierendenwerk).
