APPLICATION AND APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
What is the application deadline?
The application deadline is November 15th of the year prior to the start of the programme.
How can I apply?
Interested applicants of all nationalities must apply to Heidelberg University and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Applications must be submitted online via the application portal heiCO by November 15th. Then please send us all documents by email to the following email address: maft@iued.uni-heidelberg.de.
A simultaneous application will be automatically submitted for the main national Master's programme in Translation, Communication, and Language Technology at Heidelberg University. Applications are submitted to both universities (Heidelberg University and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; further information below). All the information can be found at:

What documents do I need to submit for the application?
The documents listed in the following website must be submitted by applicants of all nationalities:

In which languages can I submit my application documents?
You can submit your documents in English or German. Most universities also offer an English-language transcript of records; it is best to inquire with your university if they do so. If the documents are not available in English or German, a certified translation into German or English must be submitted.
I have not yet completed my bachelor's degree or I have not yet received my certificate by the application deadline. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply without issue. We often receive applications from current bachelor's students. The provisional transcript of records is enough for your application. The final diploma is then required for the enrolment (Immatrikulation). Keep in mind that you must have completed your bachelor's degree before starting the double master's programme.
What language certificates do I need to submit for the application?
A highly proficient linguistic and cultural competence, both active and passive, in the B or C languages, corresponding to a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, is required. This can be provided through language certificates or through your bachelor's degree. If you don't currently have a C1 level, contact us and we will work together to find a solution.
When will I find out if I have been accepted for the double master's programme?
Once we have received your complete application documents on time (by November 15th), we will carefully review them. You will be informed of the application decision by mid-December. You will then have sufficient time for travel arrangements and enrolment (Immatrikulation).
I have been accepted to the double master's programme. What happens next?
You have been informed of the application decision by mid-December and, if applicable, awarded a scholarship. You will now receive further information from the programme coordinator and via the heiCO portal. The entire enrolment process is handled via heiCO, so keep an eye on your emails and the portal. How do I enrol?
Once you have received confirmation of your acceptance from us, you can enrol at both universities of the double master's programme. Please note that you must be enrolled at both universities for the entire duration of your studies. Details regarding enrolment at the partner university can be obtained from the programme coordinator there. You must be successfully enrolled at Heidelberg University by March 31st at the latest. Proof of health insurance is required for enrolment. How do I proceed?
Students in the double master's programme must provide proof of health insurance for the entire duration of their studies. Students with foreign insurance (i.e., non-German insurance; including the European EHIC) can have their insurance verified by a statutory German health insurance provider. To do so, you must contact a German statutory health insurance provider and request verification. This provider will then generate the required M10 notification (M10 Meldung) and send it to Heidelberg University. FINANCIAL ASPECTS
What are the costs of the double master's programme?
Students in the double master's programme are exempt from tuition fees at the partner university. A semester fee is payable per semester to study at Heidelberg University. In the summer semester of 2025, this fee is €161.10. The amount is due at the beginning of each semester upon re-enrolment (Rückmeldung), as well as on first-time enrolment.
In addition to the regular tuition fees, additional fees apply for international students (not for EU or EEA citizens), as well as students pursuing a second degree or continuing education master's programmes. Further information can be found here:

What options are available to finance my studies?
The international variant, "Specialized Translation and Translation Technologies," is a programme funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Particularly qualified students whose home university is Heidelberg can be awarded scholarships for a study year abroad. PREPARING FOR YOUR STAY ABROAD
What do I need to consider before my stay in Chile?
Before starting your studies, both partner universities will inform you of all the necessary steps. For your year abroad in Chile, you should plan your trip well in advance, including the visa, possible international insurance, and vaccinations, if needed. Please contact us for further information.

How does Heidelberg University support international students?
Heidelberg University supports international students before and during their time in Heidelberg. Students whose home university is the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile can register in the portal Mobility Online before their second year of study in Heidelberg. They will then receive priority for a place in a student residence hall at Heidelberg University and can optionally attend a free preparatory German course at the beginning of the semester.
