Short-Term StudiesStudies Application Documents

As a part of your application for short-term studies, the following documents must be submitted along with your application form:

  • Written explanation for application for the desired short-term studies (motivational letter).
  • Written confirmation of supervision from the relevant department at Heidelberg University.
  • Officially certified photocopy or duplicate of the university entrance qualification which is needed for admission to a university in the relevant country of origin (e.g. Abitur, Baccalauréat, GCE - A&O-Levels, School Leaving Certificate etc.). This must include a list of the individual grades achieved.  In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German or English must be provided.
    Submitted copies of the German general higher-education entrance qualification (Abitur) do not need to be officially certified.
  • When applicable: Officially certified photocopy or duplicate of the certificate proving successful completion of the Feststellungsprüfung.
  • When applicable: Officially certified photocopies or duplicates of certificates for any university admission examinations passed abroad, including the list of individual grades achieved and, where available, the letter of admission from the foreign university. In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German or English must be provided.
  • When applicable: Officially certified photocopies or duplicates of any certificates attained at an institution of higher education or a university (colleges, academies etc.), including a list of the individual grades achieved each semester or year of study. In addition, (with the exception of documents in English) an officially certified translation of the documents into German or English must be provided. Any semester taken at an institution of higher education in Germany must be documented by enrolment certificates (original or officially certified copy) must be provided as proof for every semester which has been completed, or which is currently being completed, at an institution of higher education in Germany.
  • Proof of German language proficiency (uncertified copy); a prerequisite for sitting the German language test for university admission (Test DSH) at Heidelberg University is written proof of completion  of at least 1,000 – 1,200 hours of German lessons at a recognised institution.
  • Uncertified copy of the applicant’s passport (page featuring the passport holder’s name in Latin script).
  • For applicants with certificates from Vietnam, the People's Republic of China and India: Original of the APS certificate from the relevant Academic Examination Body.
  • In case of a transitional research stay (Forschungsstudierende): form
