Course Content
The Master of Education in Italian combines specialised and consolidated learning content in the areas of literary studies, linguistics and cultural studies with specialised didactic teaching of these topics in preparation for a career as a teacher.
The guiding principle of this blending of specialised knowledge with specialised didactics is the conviction that the acquisition of scientific knowledge and competencies is an essential prerequisite for the development of an own teaching profile. The classroom-oriented preparation of knowledge acquired in the Master of Education is the focus of the specialised didactics components of the degree programme.
The teaching content is accompanied by practical language courses that aim to develop and consolidate the active and passive Italian language skills gained in the Bachelor’s degree with teaching degree option.
Course Structure
The theory and methodology modules in the academic programme comprise 18 credits (CPs) while the specialised didactics modules comprise 13 CPs (5 CPs of which are allocated to preparation and follow-up work for the school placement).
The blended module is the point of intersection between theory and methodology and specialised didactics:
Depending on the range of offered courses, the blended module is realised as two thematically-related courses or as one course with components from both areas. Various learning and teaching formats, ranging from the traditional seminar to project work, are applied in this module.
The selected version of the degree programme (A, B, C or D) is contingent on the number of CPs in the completed blended module, which can be either 10, 8 or 6 depending on the selected type. Accordingly, the distribution and number of CPs in the purely specialised knowledge and purely specialised didactics modules comply with the number of credits in the blended module. As a result, there are four different modularised versions of the degree programme for a start of programme in the winter semester and four additional versions that differ in module sequence for a start of programme in the summer semester. The Master's thesis can be completed in the first or second subject or in Education Studies and comprises 15 CPs. There is no additional oral or written final examination in the degree programme component in Italian.
More detailed information on the modularisation of the individual versions as well as on organisation can be found in the module handbook.
