Member Peter Comba
Professor Dr. Peter Comba is Seniorprofessor with a research group at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry. Since moving to Heidelberg in 1992 he is also member of the IWR. He has established and chaired for 10 years a Research Training Group on Molecular Modeling and, since 2015, is part of the Industry on Campus project CaRLa, where he supervises a PhD student and is member of the managing board. Since its establishment in 2019 he is Fellow of the Max Planck School Matter to Life and is in its executive board. Peter Comba was dean of the faculty of chemistry, member of the University Council, Vice-Rector and for 10 years director of IWH.
After studies of chemistry and chemical education at ETH Zurich, he was a PhD student at ETH and the Université de Neuchâtel. This was followed by appointments as Research Fellow at the Australian National University, Premier Assistant at the Université de Lausanne and Habilitand at the University of Basel. Since 1992, he is professor at Heidelberg University and had varies appointments as guest scientist in Europe, South Africa, India, Australia and Japan. Peter Comba is interested how organic ligands modify the properties of metal ions of the transition metal series, the lanthanides and the actinides, and this involves experiments and theory. His main interest is in the fundamental physical basis but he is also interested in biological, medicinal, environmental and technical applications.
He has been a member of Heidelberg University’s Academic Advisory Council since 2024.
