Together with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Stifterverband is launching the second AI Campus Ideas Competition to develop open and innovative learning opportunities. The AI Campus went online in summer 2020 with a beta version of its digital learning platform for artificial intelligence. As part of the German government's AI strategy and data strategy, it is already developing open and innovative learning opportunities on AI and data skills (https://ki-campus.org/overview) with over 30 partners on a pilot basis until 2022. The second AI Campus Ideas Competition focuses on the targeted further curricular design of the AI Campus learning platform. Learning opportunities on basic concepts and methods of AI as well as data science and data literacy are to expand a sound basis for dealing with AI. Building on this, application-oriented and area-specific learning opportunities on AI and data competences in the fields of medicine, school and Industry 4.0 should deal in depth with content and practice-oriented competence requirements. The project outline should consist of a maximum of 8 pages. The AI Campus team will offer a webinar on the application process on 22 March 2021 (5-6 p.m.).
This year, the Vector Foundation is once again offering bold scientists at Baden-Württemberg's colleges, universities and research institutions the opportunity to receive start-up funding for an innovative, unconventional research project in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT). The call is aimed at both young researchers (students, doctoral candidates and postdocs) and experienced scientists*. Applications can be submitted for up to 100,000 euros per project for a maximum period of 24 months.
This WVL project aims to contribute to the clarification of the performance-promoting and performance-limiting influencing and conditioning factors of individual performance development of athletes in the follow-up and high-performance area. In doing so, a holistic transdisciplinary approach is pursued through a problem-oriented networking of different (sports science) disciplines and levels of observation, e.g. molecular, training physiology, psychological, socio-psychological, biomechanical, socio-structural, etc., as well as including the expertise of trainer-advisor teams. On the one hand, this is intended to better explain the complex mechanisms of training adaptations via the interaction of influencing and conditioning factors on individual performance developments and individual trainability, in order to be able to individually control performance processes at a very high level of competitive sport. In doing so, the core questions of training are to be illuminated: What works how, when, for whom - and why? A project duration of four years (48 months) is planned. The project is expected to be awarded in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (target start date: 01.10.2021). A maximum funding amount of 500,000 EUR per year (incl. all applicable taxes) is planned. The call for proposals provides for a single-stage selection procedure.
The Einstein Forum and the Daimler and Benz Foundation are offering a fellowship for young thinkers who wish to pursue a project in a different field from that of their previous research. The fellowship includes living accommodations for five to six months in the garden cottage of Einstein`s summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg. The fellow will receive a stipend of EUR 10,000 and reimbursement of travel expenses. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the current Einstein Fellow has not be able to take up residence in Caputh yet. Therefore, the following fellowship will be awarded for 2022 rather than 2021. All applications that have already been submitted will be considered in the next selection round. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. Please note that no fellowships will be awarded for dissertation research. The proposed project must be significantly different in content, and preferably field and form, from the applicant’s previous work.

To mark our 25th anniversary, we are promoting outstanding young scientists and thus supporting Germany as a center of science and research. All doctoral students whose doctorate is evaluated with at least magna cum laude can apply for our Excellence Initiative until the end of 2021. Papers that we accept as part of the Excellence Initiative will be published free of charge with three specimen copies. To apply, submit the following documents: A letter of application (1-2 pages), which should address in particular the relevance of the topic, the originality of the work, and the target audience, a short vita, the paper as a PDF file, and the reviewers' opinions. Applications should be submitted promptly after the paper has been evaluated. Applications received after Dec. 31, 2021, will not be considered. The first two Excellence Initiatives in 2010 and 2015 were a great success: more than 250 young scientists were supported by a free publication of their dissertation. Their work is part of our attractive publishing program, which today includes around 6500 titles in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences and is internationally acclaimed. |
