For almost two years now, HAI has been offering students as well as working alumni and alumnae information, tips and advice tailored to their individual needs.

He not only received a wealth of practical tips and tricks, but also valuable additional information, so that he now feels much more confident about taking the next step. Simone Lasser, contact person for companies as well as for alumni, alumnae, student councils and student initiatives, has been offering individual counseling appointments in the HAI career area since January 2022 in addition to her work at Heidelberg University's Career Service in the languages and competence center heiSKILLS, which has met with great interest. The qualified psychologist specializing in work and organizational psychology has many years of experience as a personnel consultant and career coach. Based on personal questions and specific needs, she works with clients to develop suitable application strategies or discuss other individual issues during the consultation appointments. The consultations are offered online and appointments are published on the platforms linked below or arranged by appointment. In addition to the individual consultations, a workshop is also planned for the second half of the year, which will focus on CVs for work and research stays in the USA.
Learning from the emergency medical team - alumni lecture at IT talk
What can development teams implementing software, for example, learn from the way medical emergency services work? This question was the subject of a lecture by alumnus Dr. Oliver Emmler on 16 January 2024 as part of the "IT Talk Lecture Series", which the heiSKILLS Career Service regularly offers together with the Institute of Computer Science to highlight career prospects in the field of computer science. Oliver Emmler - a very committed HAI member who also advises students as a mentor - is Managing Director of doctoroo GmbH, which offers agile transformation services for the medical sector.
In his presentation, the experienced doctor and medical IT specialist explained so-called agile working methods, which are used to break up cumbersome work processes so that organizations can act flexibly. He provided insights into action patterns, communication techniques and operational tactics of medical emergency personnel who have to act quickly and showed what development teams can learn from them for their work. The focus was on techniques for controlled dialog, the question of why a rescue chain is not a waterfall and how focus can be generated in critical situations. Oliver Emmler himself applies agile principles in software development as well as in emergency medicine and international disaster relief at the WHO.
