In close cooperation between MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg, hei_INNOVATION, the transfer agency of Heidelberg University, will take over the project coordination of the GamesHub on site from August to further expand the student and start-up programme. In the GamesHub for Health / Life Science Heidelberg, new game applications for preventive, therapeutic and educational use in the health industry for patients and staff will be developed from October. Interested start-ups and students can apply for a place in the programme until 6 September.

In the third round of funding, the GamesHub programme is again aimed at start-ups that need support in the further development of their “Games for Health” prototypes, access to test environments or help with the connectivity of their product. In addition, from this year onwards, students, especially those in practical semesters, can also apply individually or as teams for a place in the qualification programme.

The application takes place online via the GamesHub Heidelberg website and can be submitted until 6 September 2023. An expert jury will decide on acceptance into the coaching and qualification programme at the end of September. The duration of the new programme round, which is mainly carried out online, is from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2024.

The programme includes a six-month qualification programme where teams can access an earmarked team budget and industry-specific coaching in the development of their games prototypes. New this year is a broad network of experts who are available to the teams for individual advice. This ranges from clinical expertise to games know-how and founder experience from the “Games for Health” sector.

In 2020, MFG Baden-Württemberg initiated the GamesHub for games applications in the health industry, which is unique in Germany, together with the Hochschule der Medien (HdM) in the science and creative city of Heidelberg. The establishment of new interdisciplinary structures and expert networks at the interface of games and medical technologies in education, training, therapy and rehabilitation is intended to contribute to an expansion of the content of the life sciences ecosystem in Heidelberg and the region. The cooperation with the Games Institute of the HdM as well as with the SRH University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg, other universities in the state and with the city and the Technology Park Heidelberg continues to be a central component of the pilot project.
