German and international prospective studentsSupplementary examination at the Studienkolleg

Applicants who want to start their studies in a degree programme that their completed assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for studies at institutions of higher education in Germany does not make them eligible for may be admitted to a supplementary examination.

The supplementary examination usually is taken at the same Studienkolleg where the previous assessment test was taken. It is possible to repeat a failed supplementary examination once. The supplementary examination at the Studienkolleg of Heidelberg University is usually completed as an external examination.

Mandatory counselling at the Studienkolleg of Heidelberg University is a prerequisite for participating in the examination. Relevant specialised knowledge in the area of the planned course of studies beyond the school-leaving certificate must be documented in the counselling session. The dates will be provided by email after we receive the documents in support of your application.

Please note: The application for a supplementary examination must be submitted separately from the application for a university place. It is only possible to apply for a university place at Heidelberg University after successfully completing the supplementary examination. Please also consider that not all degree programmes will start in every semester. There are some degree programmes that will only start in the winter semester.

Participation in the supplementary examination is not possible if you

  • are attending a different Studienkolleg or are registered for it in the corresponding semester.
  • have finally failed the assessment test to determine the eligibility of foreign applicants for studies at institutions of higher education in Germany in a Studienkolleg.
