German nationals Application to the Studienkolleg - Application documents
German nationals who are required to take the Assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) before taking up a specialized course of study apply for admission to the Studienkolleg for the desired focus course via the online portal heiCO with the following documents:
- The certificate of higher education entrance qualification* obtained abroad (e.g. Abitur, Baccalauréat, GCE - A&O Levels, School Leaving Certificate, etc.) including the corresponding lists of individual grades.
The translation of the diploma from a sworn translator into German or English must also be uploaded. - Proof of knowledge of the German language; at the time of application, proof of German language skills at level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages must be demonstrated*.
- Notification from the Stuttgart Regional Council (Regierungspräsidiums Stuttgart) with assignment to the assessment test
- If applicable: Certificates or transcripts of university entrance examinations passed abroad, including the corresponding list of individual grades and - if available - the letter of admission from the foreign university.
- If applicable: All college and university transcripts earned (colleges, academies, etc.) including the associated lists of individual grades per semester or year of study.

If applicable: All academic achievements (transcript of records) per semester or academic year, if the course of study has not yet been completed.
*Important note: Please note that application documents cannot be submitted at a later date. If your certificate of higher education entrance qualification or your proof of German language proficiency is not yet available by the application deadline, it is unfortunately not possible to apply. In this case, you can only apply for the following semester.
Accepted certificates for the application to the preparatory course (B2+)
To apply to the preparatory course (Studienkolleg), you must prove your German language proficiency with one of the following certificates:
- Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz (German Language Diploma of the Conference of German Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs), Level 2 (DSD II)
- Goethe-Zertifikat B2 with at least 65 points in all components (or Goethe-Zertifikat C1, C2)
- onSET-Deutsch: Zertifikat B2-Kernbereich (or C1, C2)
- Österreichisches Sprachdiplom (ÖSD) Zertifikat B2 (ZB2) with at least 53 points in the written part („good“ or „very good“) and 23 points in the oral part („good“ or „very good“) (or ÖSD Zertifikat C1, C2)
- telc Deutsch B2-Zertifikat with at least 240 points („good“ or „very good“) (or telc Deutsch C1, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule)
- TestDaF (Test German as a Foreign Language) - if all four components were passed with a minimum result of TDN 3 (or better)
- Certificate of the German language test for the admission to universities for foreign applicants at the level DSH-1 (with at least 62% in the written and in the oral part)
Persons, who attend a school in Germany:
- Mittlere Reife (secondary school leaving certificate) from a German Gymnasium or comparable qualification (Austria, Switzerland) with a grade of 3.0 or better in German in combination with a university entrance qualification from the home country
- Certificate of completed vocational training in Germany with a grade of 3.0 or better in German in combination with a university entrance qualification from the home country
Notes on foreign certificates/education certificates
Educational certificates (certificates, transcripts of records, certificates of university entrance examinations,...) must always be uploaded in the original, in the original language of the country of origin and (except for German- or English-language educational certificates) additionally in English or German translation by sworn translators. The translation of a certificate of education by a sworn translator into German or English must be uploaded in the original. If the original cannot be uploaded, the officially certified copy of the translation by the sworn translator must be uploaded.
Application deadlines
Applications for the desired College of Studies concentration course may be accepted during the following application periods:
- From May 1st until June 30th for the following winter semester
- From November 1st until December 15th for the following summer semester
Application documents received by Heidelberg University after the application deadline cannot be considered in the selection and admission process.
