SPECIAL PROCEDURESLOTTERY
If there are still places available following the selection procedure for degree programmes with admission restrictions, these places will be allocated by Heidelberg University via a lottery.
All applicants, even those that did not previously participate in the main selection procedure or the procedure for subsequent admissions, can apply as part of the lottery. A lottery may also be used to allocate any places available for degree programmes with admission restrictions beyond the first semester.
Please note that the procedure for subsequent admissions means that very few university places tend to be allocated via the lottery procedure.
APPLICATION AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
If places are to be allocated via lottery, Heidelberg University will consider all applications submitted within the respective application period. Applicants are not required to submit copies of certificates. It is not necessary to include information on instances of hardship as such circumstances are not considered as part of the lottery. An individual lottery is conducted for each admission-restricted subject.
If applicants are to be considered in a lottery for a Master’s degree programme, copies of all documents stipulated in the admission regulations must be included in the application. This enables us to ensure that your application fulfils all minimum admission requirements. Any diplomas or certificates from non-German institutions must be submitted as copies of the original documents, along with a sworn translation in English or German. International applicants may also be required to provide additional proof of their knowledge of German.

Applications for the lottery that are submitted before or after the stated periods will not be considered. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
