ERASMUS OutgoingMobility Grant Amounts
Students who attend a European partner university as part of the ERASMUS programme are exempt from paying tuition fees to the host institution. Students also receive a grant to cover extra costs which may arise during their period abroad. The Mobility grant amount varies from year to year as it is dependant on the grant allowance amount set by the European Commission. Certain amounts have, however, been determined for each country. Unfortunately, the exact amount of the grant can be announced only at short notice, after the ERASMUS grant allowance amount is published by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

(1 month = 30 days; except for stays ending on february 28 or 29)
ERASMUS scholarship holders receive a range of organisational help. Students do not need to apply individually to the partner university; the programme representative from Heidelberg University will register students on their behalf. Within the weeks following registration, the host university will contact the scholarship holder and send them various information. Accommodation is often offered in halls of residence and specific language courses and orientation events are organised for ERASMUS scholarship holders.

Additional Financial Support
Upon timely application, ERASMUS students travelling to the host country/home country by environmentally friendly means of transport ("Green Travel") can be supported with a lump sum of 50 Euro and, if applicable, up to four additional days of travel.
Additionally,
- Students and graduates with a disability (GdB 20 or higher) or a chronic illness.
- Students and graduates who are studying abroad with children
- First-time academics (students and graduates from a non-academic home)
- Working students and graduates
can apply for a Social Top-Up for participants with fewer opportunities. The amount is 250 Euro /month (8.33 Euro/day) for the same period as the ERASMUS scholarship.
Exact conditions and deadlines for applications are being announced in due time. Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses as well as students who are taking their child/children abroad can, in justified cases and in consultation with the International Relations Office, submit their application for a Social Top-Up outside the deadlines or apply for funding of the real costs.
Combinability with BAföG and scholarships
The ERASMUS grant can be combined with BAföG. Students receiving the national “Inlands-BAföG” are normally also entitled to the international "Auslands-BAföG". For integrated educational training periods in the frame of the ERASMUS programme, it comprises additional funds for travel costs and possibly additional allowances for health insurance costs and rent. Please keep in mind to apply early (generally at least 6 months prior to your stay abroad).
An ERASMUS place can also be combined with a scholarship from a private foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, etc.). In this case it is possible to receive the ERASMUS place and therefore the exemption from tuition fees, as well as the ERASMUS mobility grant. The ERASMUS mobility grant may not be credited against other national scholarships, i.e. they may neither be reduced nor suspended.
