On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the third edition of the event series “hei_INNOVATION Lunch & Learn” took place at the hei_INNOVATION HUB of Heidelberg University. In a relaxed atmosphere, Dr. Mona Kellner, project manager of the university’s health management program Univital, shared her experiences with innovative knowledge transfer approaches. The event series is aimed at everyone interested in learning how knowledge transfer works in practice and who are curious about new ideas, creative approaches, and successful examples from the academic world.
The event, organized by hei_INNOVATION and held quarterly, offers a space for exchange and inspiration around successful transfer projects during a free lunch. This time, the focus was on the project “Science in the City,” which was implemented in summer 2024 under the title “Frauen Welten” (Worlds of Women). For one month, Heidelberg University moved into the main street of Heidelberg: a vacant retail space was transformed into a temporary science space where research on women’s health and life realities was made visible and tangible.
In a conversation with Jennifer Smith from hei_INNOVATION, Dr. Kellner provided insights into the conception and execution of the project. She authentically described the challenges and opportunities that come with a large-scale transfer and science communication initiative in a public space. The project was developed in close cooperation with the city of Heidelberg and with support from hei_INNOVATION — but it was above all made possible through the personal commitment and dedication of Dr. Mona Kellner.
The event series “hei_INNOVATION Lunch & Learn” offers the opportunity to learn about exciting knowledge transfer projects and gain inspiring input from strong personalities. At the same time, the format fosters exchange between science and society. The goal is to rethink knowledge transfer and provide practical impulses for collaboration. Once again, the format proved to be a fruitful platform for exchange, networking, and idea development beyond the academic context.
