HAInews 2023/01Many Thanks for Donations for People and Projects

At the end of 2022, we have again asked for donations that Heidelberg Alumni International can use to support people or make projects possible.

Our sincere thanks go to all donors – to long-time supporters as well as to those who donated for the first time or who give sporadically. We were able to use some of the funds immediately, as with the Amirana Scholarship, and we will use the other donations in the course of the year, for example in our HAIreconnect programme to support young and visiting researchers.

Herz und Geldschein halten sich die Waage

Those who would like to support people with a donation through HAI can either donate specifically to one of our four scholarship funds or send us a donation, which we use within the funds where it is currently most needed. You can choose from the Amirana Scholarship to support medical and dental students from the Global South, the HAIreconnect Scholarships for short stays of international junior researchers and former guest researchers, the Graduation Grants, which enable students in the final phase of their studies to successfully complete their studies even in the event of a sudden financial emergency, and the HAUS Scholarships, with which the US Alumni Club HAUS enables students from the USA to study in Heidelberg for one or two semesters.

Alumni can also set priorities in Heidelberg's alumni work by specifically supporting individual projects or a preferred project area: For example, they can support career offers for students and graduates in order to make occupational fields or sectors more tangible, which facilitate the transition to a successful professional life or are geared towards career support. Those who attach more importance to the expansion of networking can promote professional, regional or international offers of the groups and networks under the umbrella of HAI. In the case of project funding, you can either make a specific donation or make a general donation for project funding and leave it up to us to decide where the money can best be used.

We would especially like to thank the couple Dr Mahomed T. and Dr Annelene J. Amirana for their long-standing commitment, who once again donated a generous amount to the scholarship fund they set up in 2016, as well as our alumnus Richard Anderson, who once again donated to the Amirana Scholarship as well as to the HAUS Scholarships and projects. Thanks to these long-standing donors, who have been committed to supporting individuals for many years, we have already been able to support numerous students – many thanks for this, also on behalf of the beneficiaries.

Of course, we are not only happy to receive donations from our alumni at the end of the year, they are always welcome! The community of alumni of Ruperto Carola has the power to have a lasting positive influence on the lives and future of the following generation. Every donation, no matter how small, counts and is also proof of the value and benefit of the worldwide “alumni family” of Heidelberg University. You can find information on all donation options online, and we will also be happy to advise you – just contact us: spenden@alumni.uni-heidelberg.de
