APPLICATION AND REQUIREMENTS
Until when can I apply?
Applications for the MA FK are possible until June 15th each year.
How can I apply?
Interested applicants of all nationalities must apply to both Heidelberg University and the University of Salamanca. Applications must be submitted online via the application portal heiCO by June 15th. Afterward, please send all documents submitted to the following email address: mafk@iued.uni-heidelberg.de. A simultaneous application will automatically be submitted for the underlying national Master's programme in Translation, Communication, and Language Technology at Heidelberg University. Applications are submitted to both universities (Heidelberg University and University of Salamanca; further information below). All the information can be found at: https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/fakultaeten/neuphil/iask/sued/imstudium/Bewerbung.html. You can also find instructions for applying via heiCO at: https://backend.uni-heidelberg.de/de/dokumente/anleitung-zur-bewerbung-auf-ein-masterstudium/download.
What documents do I need to submit for the application?
The documents listed in the following the website must be submitted by applicants of all nationalities: https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/fakultaeten/neuphil/iask/sued/imstudium/Bewerbung.html
In which languages can I submit my application documents?
You can submit your documents in English or German. Most universities also offer an English-language transcript of records; it is best to inquire with your university. If the documents are not available in English or German, a certified translation into German or English must be submitted.
I have not yet completed my bachelor's degree or I have not yet received my certificate by the application deadline. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply without any problems. We often receive applications from current bachelor's students. The provisional transcript of records is sufficient for your application. The final diploma is then required for enrollment (Immatrikulation). Keep in mind that you must have completed your bachelor's degree before starting the double master's programme.
What language certificates do I need to submit for the application?
A highly proficient linguistic and cultural competence in the B or C languages, in the sense of active and passive language competence corresponding to a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, is required. This can be provided through language certificates or through your bachelor's degree. If you don't currently have a C1 level, contact us and we will work together to find a solution.
When will I know if I have been accepted?
Once we have received your complete application documents on time by June 15th, we will carefully review your documents. You will be informed of the application decision promptly. You will then have sufficient time for travel arrangements and enrollment (Immatrikulation).
I have been accepted to the double master's programme. What happens next?
You have been informed of the application decision and, if applicable, scholarship award. You will now receive further information from the programme coordinator via the heiCO portal. The entire enrollment (Immatrikulation) process is handled via heiCO, so keep an eye on your emails and the portal. Further information on enrollment for German students can be found here: https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/de/studium/bewerben-einschreiben/einschreibung/einschreibung-fuer-das-1-fachsemester-2 and for international students here: https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/de/studium/bewerben-einschreiben/einschreibung/einschreibung-fuer-das-1-fachsemester-3.
How do I enroll?
Once you have received confirmation of your acceptance from us, you can enroll at both universities of the double master's programme. Please note that you must be enrolled at both universities for the entire duration of your studies. Details regarding enrollment at the partner university can be obtained from the programme coordinator there. You must be successfully enrolled at Heidelberg University by March 31st at the latest. Detailed instructions can be found at: https://backend.uni-heidelberg.de/de/dokumente/anleitung-einschreibung/download. Please be sure to follow all information regarding enrollment via the heiCO portal and in your individual letter of admission.
Proof of health insurance is required for enrollment. How do I proceed?
Students in the double master's programme must provide proof of health insurance for the entire duration of their studies. Students with a foreign insurance (i.e., non-German insurance; including the European EHIC) can have their insurance verified by a statutory German health insurance provider. To do so, you must contact a German statutory health insurance provider and request a verification. This provider will then generate the required notification (M10 Meldung) and send it to Heidelberg University. Further information can be found here: https://backend.uni-heidelberg.de/de/dokumente/checkliste-krankenversicherungdt-0/download.
