Course Content

The objective of the degree programme is the acquisition and deepening of knowledge of current relevant scientific methods used in Medical Informatics along with the ability to adequately and effectively apply these in problem-solving processes in the various fields of healthcare and medicine, in the areas of patient care, therapy, and diagnosis, as well as in research. Graduates will be also have the ability to collaborate in the development of new methods and procedures for specific problems and to provide a critical assessment of their effectiveness and efficiency. This scientific university education provides students with all of the competencies required to pursue responsible positions in research, development, and management in industry, hospitals, or at software companies or universities.

Course Structure

The Medical Informatics master’s degree programme consists of seven compulsory and four compulsory-elective modules. In the third semester, to deepen specific knowledge, two of the four compulsory modules are to be selected. The Master’s thesis will be completed in the fourth semester. In this supervised thesis, a current topic from the field of Medical Informatics is to be addressed, using scientific methods. To support this research, the institutions of Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, as well as the entire Heidelberg University scientific network, with its various collaborating institutions, e.g. the university hospital, the lecture and library facilities of the Medical Faculty, the German Cancer Research Center, the BIOQUANT, and others, are made available to the students.
