Semester EventsListening Comprehension

Content

In many subjects, lectures play an essential role in conveying information. Students whose native language is not German first have to surmount the language barrier before dealing with the content of what was said. Missing vocabulary may cause problems just as much as difficulties with understanding certain dialects or accents.

In this workshop, international students train their listening comprehension by working with different samples of spoken text from the academic context such as lectures and presentations. They will also deal with verbal contributions from outside academia, e.g. talk shows or train station announcements. In these practical exercises, students will encounter various German dialects and accents.

Please Note

This course will be offered in German. Prerequisites are therefore good German language skills (min. Intermediate Course II).

The workshop is aimed at international students in their first academic semesters of Bachelor’s or state examination programmes.
