Excursions programmeBerlin/ Dresden

Wednesday till Sunday, 12 - 16 February

The finale of our excursion programme is a five-day trip to two cities which have played a major role in Germany’s history. The first stop on our trip is Dresden, the “Florence of the river Elbe” and the capital of the region of Saxony. Our tour of the city will take us past Dresden’s many masterpieces of Baroque architecture - the Zwinger palace, the world-famous church Frauenkirche at Neumarkt, as well as the Semperoper and Dresden’s royal palace, the Residenzschloss. We’ll spend the night in Neustadt, Dresden’s hip student district, before heading onto the second stop of our trip, Germany’s capital city.

In Berlin we’ll enjoy a diverse programme of activities, including a bus tour of the city which will take us past Berlin’s most important sights: the Brandenburg Gate, Kurfürstendamm, Potsdamer Platz, the Holocaust memorial, and the East Side Gallery. The following day, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the city which will take us through the historic centre, through Gendarmenmarkt and Nikolaiviertel, on to Unter den Linden, and finally, the Berlin Cathedral and Museum Island.

We’ll also learn more about the complex and multifaceted history of Germany and its capital. We’ll visit the Reichstag, seat of the German government, where we’ll enjoy a presentation and visit the glass dome. We’ll then head to the exhibition “Topographie des Terrors” which is located on the former grounds of the Gestapo and SS headquarters. Finally, we’ll take a tour of Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, a former Stasi prison.

Despite the jam-packed programme, you’ll have a chance to explore the city on your own. You’ll also have time during the trip to visit Berlin’s many museums, or head to Berlin’s hottest shopping locations on Ku’Damm, in KADEWE, or in the city’s many other shopping centres. Furthermore, our hostel in the hip district of Friedrichshain is surrounded by some of the city’s coolest bars and cafes.
