Collecting mania?! Heidelberg University collections caught between research, teaching, and communication
With the support of the University Library, the publication project aims to present the 2021 Academic Lunch Break in the form of a richly illustrated enhanced publication that also takes readers on a digital journey of discovery through the objects and stories presented. In collaboration with the Institute for Scientific Computing (IWR) and the Institute of Physics, 3D images and holograms of numerous objects will be produced so that they can be viewed and explored virtually from all sides. At the same time, video and audio sequences will be created to bring the intangible aspects of the collection objects to life.
The accompanying volume of the Academic Lunch Break thus goes a step beyond the usual path of science communication: it also offers the general public the opportunity to independently and actively explore collection objects in digital space. The volume, which is offered by the university library in a sustainable manner through an open access version and uses the heidICON database structure as a backend for data storage, guarantees long-term access and insight into the work of the university collections. In addition, there will be a print version of the volume that allows the stored digital content to be accessed via QR codes.
