Scholars at Heidelberg University organize international conference in Hyderabad
Questions of regulation, autonomy and global justice are the focus of a German-Indian conference on law, which is taking place from 15 to 17 October 2025 at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad (India). Legal scholars Prof. Dr Anton Zimmermann and Prof. Dr Marc-Philippe Weller from the Law Faculty of Heidelberg University are playing a major part in the organization. Funding for the “International Law Conclave Hyderabad” comes from the German Research Foundation.
“Regulatory questions and law research topics have, to date, been discussed largely separately between the Global North and the Global South. While the North is primarily concerned with questions of international order, environmental protection and human rights, the focus in the South is on strengthening economic and political independence. As yet, there has hardly been a genuine dialogue at all,” underlines Prof. Zimmermann, leader of an Emmy Noether junior research group on international private law and public international law at Heidelberg University. The conference, which is being jointly arranged with the Indian legal scholar Prof. Dr Shrikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the NALSAR University of Law, intends to foster this exchange. The aim is to share ideas and initiate long-term cooperation agreements, along with joint research projects.
The “International Law Conclave Hyderabad” has two parts. First, during a postdoctoral symposium early-career researchers from Germany and India will discuss topical issues in international and comparative law. In tandems they will explore topics and contribute their respective legal perspectives. Then a “Law Professors Meet” will bring together established researchers from the two countries in order to exchange current research findings and standpoints.
