Organizational Accommodation
If you need accommodation for the duration of the International Summer School, there are two options:
Option 1 (RECOMMENDED): You find accommodation Yourself.
There is a large number of websites where you can find all kinds of accommodation.
Your advantages:
- You will know your address before your arrival. If it is important to you to know details about your accommodation beforehand, or if you have very specific expectations regarding housing, searching an accommodation yourself is the only option for you.
- Arrival and departure dates can be agreed upon individually with the respective lessor; the accommodation is available to you for some additional holidays even after the Summer School has finished.
- You can decide to rent a flat together with other participants you are acquainted with. It is also possible to bring your family along.
- You can request detailed information on the accommodation, photos etc. beforehand.
- The accommodation corresponds to your wishes in terms of amenities, size and location, respectively meets exactly your needs.
Please note:
- The Summer School is not involved in renting an accommodation.
- Lessors may ask for a deposit and/or advance payment.
- It is advisable to start looking for an accommodation as soon as possible in order to still have sufficient options available.
Option 2: You REQUEST accommodation through the International Summer School.
In this case, please indicate your accomodation request when you register for the course. This opportunity is primarily open to scholarship holders from various programs. Depending on the availability / number of rooms on offer, other participants can apply for support in finding accommodation as well.
Your advantages:
- The International Summer School grants supporting participants in searching an accommodation in Heidelberg or the vicinity.
- The rent is to be paid by credit card; the IFK takes care of forwarding the rent to the lessors.
Please note:
- Accommodation will only be provided from Wednesday, July 29, to Friday, August 28, 2026, 10 am. If you arrive early or would like to stay longer you will have to organize this yourself.
- The address and detailed information can and will only be provided upon your arrival in Heidelberg. Inquiries related to these details cannot be answered in advance.
- Usually, simply furnished students’ rooms, without catering, are found. These are partly shared rooms for 2-4 people. Shared use of a kitchen is usually possible. Shower or bath facilities are available. Generally, private (individual) use can in most cases not be guaranteed. Also, it cannot always be guaranteed that a flat / shared accommodation will only be occupied by participants of the same sex. There are rooms in the university's student dormitories or dormitories run by other operators, rooms in private student flat-shares or private houses. The furnishings are simple but functional (bed, desk/chair, dining area, storage space for clothes, etc.). All rooms are located in Heidelberg or the urban catchment area (e.g., Eppelheim, Dossenheim, Leimen, Leimen-St. Ilgen, Neckargemünd). Requests regarding proximity to teaching locations cannot be accommodated.
- Requests concerning features, the possibility to rent an accommodation together with others, or further personal needs cannot be met.
- More comfortable accommodation is available only exceptionally.
- It is not possible to arrange rooms in a family home or with a host family.
- It is not possible for additional persons, e.g., family members, to apply. Support in searching accommodation is only granted to course participants.
- It is not possible to change accommodation if you are not satisfied with it or if your needs are not met.
- No guarantees are given for the actual provision of an accommodation.
