Transfer Knowledge Transfer

In addition to research and teaching, knowledge transfer is one of the core activities of the university. The effective transfer of knowledge for practical application in society is just as valuable for sustaining the ability to innovate as for successfully addressing the challenges of demographic and societal change. In facing the issues of concern to society, research offers critical stimuli for society's innovative growth against a horizon of alternatives. Scientific communication also helps promote better understanding of research work and results.

To contribute to solving complex challenges, Heidelberg University works closely with extra-university partners and, in both phases of the Excellence Initiative, gradually expanded its knowledge transfer activities in the three dimensions of application, communication, and consulting. Application: The interchange between basic research and its application in industry and the economy for the purpose of technological innovation is a central component of the university's technology transfer strategy, which is realised primarily through the Industry-on-Campus concept. Communication: Using a variety of communications formats, knowledge and findings are systematically shared and made accessible to the broader public and defined subsets. Consulting: Scientific consulting services help put research findings into practice in a number of areas of society such as politics, the economy, and culture.
