In subjects with nationwide admission restrictions (Numerus Clausus / NC) - in Heidelberg these are medicine, pharmacy and dentistry - 30% of places are allocated to applicants with the best grades in their scool leaving certificates (i.e. university entrance qualification, such as ‘A’ levels, high school diploma, German ‘Abitur’, etc.) by the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (Foundation for university admission). The remaining 70% of places are allocated by the universities themselves in the so-called “additional suitability quota procedure” (Zusätzliche Eignungsquote, ZEQ, 10%) and the “university-internal selection procedure” (Auswahlverfahren der Hochschulen, AdH, 60%).
The university allocates places according to the criteria specified in the selection and admission regulations. Further details can be found in the corresponding regulations.
Information on documents required by Hochschulstart for applications for subjects with nationwide admission restrictions (Numerus Clausus/NC) as well as on binding deadlines is available from the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (Foundation for university admission) (hochschulstart.de).
Applications for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy must be submitted via the application portal of hochschulstart.de. For these programmes, the closing dates for applications via hochschulstart.de are 15 July for candidates who obtained their university entrance qualification after 15 January of the same year (“school leavers”), or 31 May if the university entrance qualification is older. In the case of applications for a second degree, the time of completion of the first degree course applies. All deadlines constitute a statutory cut-off period. Please consult hochschulstart.de for the specifics related to deadlines for submission or later submission of documents.

Winter Semester: Application at the University of Heidelberg: 01.06. - 15.07.
The hochschulstart.de (central) Germany-wide selection procedure for the subject pharmacy currently has three quotas for prospective students that enable admission to a degree programme: the average final school leaving grade (20%), the waiting time (20%) and the university’s selection procedure (60%). Rankings are created for each quota that determine which students are accepted.
