Excursions programmeRothenburg ob der Tauber

Saturday, 14 December

Our trip on the third Saturday of Advent will take us back in time to the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Like something out of the Grimms’ fairytales, Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the quintessential medieval German settlement. You’ll be able to see firsthand, the numerous postcard-like scenes in the town - the famous Plönlein building and the Siebers tower, the impressive town hall, and last but not least the Gothic Ratstrinkstube. Otherwise known as the Councillor’s Tavern, this former tavern bears the town clock which plays the legendary “Meistertrunk” on each hour.

Following our tour, you’ll have time to visit the Reiterlesmarkt, one of Germany’s most romantic Christmas markets. Alternatively, you might like to spend the afternoon in one of the city’s many museums. Check out 1000 years of European justice in the Medieval Crime Museum; the history of the town in the Rothenburgmuseum; the graphics collection at the Albert Dürer house, or Germany’s only Christmas museum - the city has something for everyone!
