The German Studies Institute Partnership (GIP) "Philology – Technology – Translation 2", funded by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office, builds on two previous project phases: the partnership "Cultural Transfer in Literary, Media and Specialised Communication" (since 2018) with the Chair of German Philology at the Faculty of Humanities of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia), and the follow-up project "Philology – Technology – Translation" approved for 2021–2023 with Brusov State University in Yerevan (Armenia).

Cooperation with Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University was launched with the aim of establishing a new subfield of cultural transfer with emphases on translation and translation studies at the Chair of German Philology. The expansion of the project to Brusov State University in Yerevan pursued the following objectives:

• Further development and modernisation of BA and MA curricula with a focus on translation in both countries, in particular through stronger integration of the German language as well as the inclusion of corpus-linguistic and language- and translation-technology components,
• Support for qualified early-career researchers through joint supervision of doctoral projects and research stays in Heidelberg.

The third phase of the GIP project "Philology – Technology – Translation 2" for the period 2025–2027 builds on the second project phase and expands it. On the one hand, the successful capacity-building, curricular support and development of language- and translation-technology resources at the partner universities in Yerevan and Tbilisi will be continued. On the other hand, the project will be extended by another partner: the Chair of Translation and Slavic Studies at Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University in Ukraine.

Building on the experience gained in the previous phases, the partner institution in the German studies field will be strengthened in terms of teaching capacities in relevant areas of specialised and media translation, interpreting and corpus linguistics. In addition, language- and translation-technology resources for the German–Ukrainian language pair will be developed. Doctoral projects will continue to be supported and jointly supervised. Within the framework of the project, students from the three partner institutions will also spend research stays in Heidelberg throughout the project period and will be enrolled as short-term students.

To achieve these objectives, numerous training courses as well as workshops and colloquia will be held in Heidelberg, Tbilisi, Yerevan and, at a later stage, in Kryvyi Rih.
