About the program
Bridging Science and Entrepreneurship
Over a 24-month period, selected candidates
- continue their doctoral research at Heidelberg University;
- earn a part-time MBA from Mannheim Business School, one of Europe’s top-ranked business schools;
- work in interdisciplinary, multi-competence teams;
- develop their research toward commercialization and venture creation.

Eligibility Criteria:
You are eligible if you
- are currently enrolled in a doctoral program at Heidelberg University (natural sciences, life sciences, or engineering sciences);
- have a PI with primary affiliation at Heidelberg University;
- have completed at least one year of your doctorate by September 2026;
- work on a research project with clear startup and commercialization potential;
- are at or near proof-of-concept stage;
- show strong entrepreneurial motivation;
- are willing to work in interdisciplinary teams;
- can commit to both the doctorate and part-time MBA over 24 months;
- are available to start in September 2026;
- have a mentor who actively supports the combined program.
Selection Criteria:
Applications are evaluated jointly by Heidelberg University and Mannheim Business School based on
- scientific excellence;
- innovation and startup potential of the research project;
- demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship;
- motivation to become a science-based entrepreneur.
Selection Process:
- Online application and mentor endorsement until Febraury 27, 2026.
- Initial review
- Up to eight candidates invited to an on-site interview
- Final selection of award recipients
Applicants invited to interviews can receive preparatory support from hei_INNOVATION.
There will be two Online Information Sessions on the Mannheim Business School Part-Time-MBA. The dates will be announced soon.
