CALL FOR PROPOSALS CLIMATE POLICY DESIGN

AIM

The Research Council of the Field of Focus 4 (FoF4), Self-Regulation and Regulation: Individuals and Societies, plans to fund Research Projects with a thematic focus on one of the following Main Research Areas (MRA):

CLIMATE POLICY DESIGN

Projects should address aspects of self-regulation and regulation of individuals, groups of individuals, or societies with regard to conditions, mechanisms, effects, and dynamics related to different areas within or across countries using empirical research approaches or case studies. This MRA aims to support interdisciplinary climate research with a distinct contribution from the behavioral and/or social sciences within the FoF4. Collaborative research with other FoFs are highly welcome.

FUNDING SCHEME

Projects shall start in May 2024 and end in October 2026. You can apply for up to 120.000 EUR per year in 2024 and 2025 and for up to 100.000 for 2026. Smaller projects are also welcome. Please be aware that the budget will be tight to the year.

PROPOSAL

Proposals shall not exceed a maximum of 5 pages (budget plan, CV, and further appendices excluded) and may be submitted by members of the FoF4. The research team should consist of at least two PIs (professors, post-docs) from different FoF4 disciplines, but can also include more researchers. Non-permanent post-doctoral faculty members are explicitly encouraged to apply, but will require a support letter by their institution including approval that their position exceeds the funding period. PIs cannot fund their own positions with this grant. Collaborations with researchers from FoF1, FoF2, and FoF3 are strongly encouraged. Applicants and their affiliations need to be listed in the proposal, additional researchers may be affiliated during the funding period. The proposal should highlight interdisciplinary aspects, the synergy aimed at, the use of – or further development of – FoF4 structures, and the potential of developing sustainable, new collaborative research lines. It is expected that the proposed research will advance any projects on the topic that may already exist at Heidelberg University and will result in an application for subsequent third-party funding.

The proposal should cover the following aspects:

  • Short summary
  • Status quo and aim of the project
  • Interdisciplinary aspects and the potential of developing sustainable, new collaborative research lines
  • Potential and perspective for third-party funding including placement within the discipline and potential competitors
  • The added value for the entire FoF4 research community
  • Budget plan (please refer to the provided outline on the FoF4 website)
  • Information on applicants (including name, affiliation, up to five publications relevant for the research project, list of currently funded projects including those highlighted that have a direct link to the proposed research)

REVIEW AND QUALITY CONTROL

The Research Council will select proposals and suggest them for funding to the Rectorate. The Research Council can involve additional experts for advice. Regular reporting on MRA activities to the Research Council will be mandatory in case the project is funded.
