Guide for prospective and newly enrolled students with practical information on studying at IÜD (currently being updated)
The Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) is part of the Faculty of Modern Languages at Heidelberg University. As the only university institution for translation studies in Baden-Württemberg, the IÜD offers several undergraduate and graduate programmes with international and interdisciplinary variants:
Undergraduate programmes:
- Bachelor of Arts in Translation Studies (with the international four-year programme “BA Plus Übersetzungswissenschaft Spanisch”)
- Bachelor of Arts in Translation Studies for Information Technologies (interdisciplinary degree programme with the Faculties of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Mannheim University of Applied Sciences)
Graduate Master programmes:
- Master of Arts in Translation, Communication, Language Technology (formerly Translation Studies) with the international degree programme variants:
- “Specialised Translation and Cultural Mediation” (University of Heidelberg and Universidad de Salamanca)
- “Specialised Translation and Translation Technologies” (University of Heidelberg and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile)
The IÜD is also characterised by future-oriented research. Corpus-based and experimental discourse research, terminology, literary translation, human-machine interaction in the translation process and research on spaces and dynamics in Ibero-America, supported by close cooperation with the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies, are among our main research areas.
