Studying with Children
Heidelberg University, the Studierendenwerk, the local authorities and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg offer a wide range of services and measures to support student parents. On this website we have collected the different offers as well as relevant information.
Before the child is born, a lot of things have to be organised. The State University Law (Landeshochschulgesetz) stipulates that special regulations apply to students with family responsibilities concerning examinations, part-time study and leave of absence. Here, we have also collected information on maternity leave, maternity allowance, parental leave, accommodation and health insurance coverage for pregnant students and parents-to-be to read up on ahead of time.
After the child is born, student parents oftentimes can use some financial support. This page provides advice and information concerning child allowance, parental allowance, BAföG benefits and social welfare. You will also find additional offers of financial support for students with family responsibilities provided by the City of Heidelberg and public as well as private providers.
Information regarding child care offers for children from two months old up to school age can be found here. The offers comprise both long-term child care as well as flexible, short-term child care when needed.
The Student Parents Meeting „Club Parentes“ is aimed specifically at parents who are studying at Heidelberg University. A place to meet and talk regularly, Club Parentes also features short presentations by different speakers that shed light on topics of particular interest to student parents.
