Dr. Jürgen H. GrossHead of MS laboratory |
Jürgen H. Gross is head of the mass spectrometry facility at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the University of Heidelberg since April 1994. His tasks include teaching, research, maintenance, and acquisition of instrumentation. Last but not least you may expect assistance with your MS-related problems. From 1984 to 1989 Dr. Gross studied chemistry at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD, formerly Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, THD). In 1990 he finished his diploma theses with Prof. Dr. J. J. Veith ("Über den Mechanismus der Onium-Reaktion beim metastabilen Zerfall von Di-propyl-methylen-iminium- Ionen") and in January 1994 received his Ph.D. after having continued his work on tandem MS and gas phase ion chemistry ("Mechanismen der metastabilen und stoßinduzierten Zerfälle isolierter Methylen-iminium-Ionen"). Dr. Gross is member of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Massenspektrometrie (DGMS) and is associated to the Executive Committee of DGMS. Further, he is member of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh), and of GDCh Fachgruppe Analytische Chemie. Since 2004 he has been serving the jury of the Wolfgang Paul-Studienpreis awarded by the DGMS; from 2009 to 2014 as the chairman of this jury. Dr. Gross has taught courses and seminars at companies, user meetings, and DGMS annual conferences. Jointly with Professor O. David Sparkman he has taught two-day short courses during the 18th IMSC in Bremen 2009, 19th IMSC in Kyoto 2012, 20th IMSC in Geneva 2014, 21st IMSC in Toronto 2016, and 22nd IMSC in Florence 2018. |

Iris MitschTechnician |
Iris Mitsch is working with our MS laboratory since 2009. As laboratory assistant Iris Mitsch is usually involved in measuring spectra of your samples. Most of her time, she operates the Bruker ApexQe FT-ICR instrument in ESI or DART mode but also the Bruker Autoflex MALDI-TOF instrument. | ![]() |
Matthias HoyerTechnician |
Matthias Hoyer joyned our team in mid of Nov. 2020. He operates the JEOL AccuTOF GCx most of the time. Thus, he will be typically be the person to measure your samples in EI mode or FI/FD/LIFDI mode, and to run GC-MS samples. He also runs MALDI samples on the Bruker Autoflex Speed as well as MALDI or APCI samples on the Bruker timsTOFfleX. | ![]() |
Tobias OppenländerTechnician |
Tobias Oppenländer is working with us since December 2023. So far, he mainly runs the MALDI service on the Bruker Autoflex Speed as well as MALDI samples on the Bruker timsTOFfleX instrument. | ![]() |
