The Welcome Centre is the central information and service institution for international scholars after PhD at Heidelberg University. We provide the necessary information, advice and customized support around all topics relevant for preparing a stay in Heidelberg and everyday life here – from arrival, the search for an apartment and essential visits to authorities up to the finding of an appropriate kindergarten for your children. The Welcome Centre cooperates very closely with other service institutions of Heidelberg University as well as with the administration of Heidelberg. Furthermore, we regularly organize events and excursions for visiting researchers and their families.

Information for host institutes
From November 18th 2023 on the new Skilled Immigration Act comes into force gradually. Among other things, the numeration of several paragraphs has changed.
The Welcome Centre is responsible for issuing hosting agreements for researcher visa or residence permits (§18d AufenthG). Due to changes in immigration law, In many cases the invitation letter for postdocs applying for visa has to be replaced by a hosting agreement.

Applicants for a university place address themselves to the admission office for international applicants.
