Inhalt:

 

This course provides students with advanced skills in qualitative methodology of International Relations / Comparative Foreign Policy. Students will achieve an understanding of the fundamental logic of social science research as such and of particular methodologies (ways of producing knowledge in social science). Wide spectrum of diverse qualitative methodologies will be introduced together with examples of their use. Each approach will be identified according to its basic characteristics and metatheoretical prerequisites, the promises and pitfalls of each approach will be stressed. Special attention will be paid to the issues of research design, especially in the context of explanatory methods. Students should gain knowledge about basic structure of scientific research project: research design, data collection, data analysis and research presentation, which should aid them in developing their own research projects.
