Concert tour to Japan

Außenbühne Des Deutschen Pavillons Beim Auftritt Der Camerata Carolina Am 22.09.2025In September 2025, the Camerata traveled to Japan for twelve days. There, in the Kyoto-Kansai area, we presented our program “Bach, Brahms, Bruckner” with motets by these three important masters of German-language choral music, whose music is of great interest in Japan. It is important to us that Germany's traditionally good relations with Japan are also intensified and further developed in academic and cultural terms.

The second program we have in our luggage presented German folk songs in arrangements by Romantic and modern composers. This is also in line with the wishes of our Japanese hosts.

We are interested in promoting German choral music, as well as contacts and friendships between young people from Europe and Japan. This is why we organized choral encounters and concerts as well as joint workshops with the universities of Kyoto, Mie and Nara. Camerata Carolina was also a partner of the German Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka.

Travel report

Wa! Germany, the inscription on the German pavilion, welcomed us on our first day after our arrival in Osaka on 22 September 2025 at the World Expo in this city. The Expo's motto, ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’, can also be applied to our Japan project. The Camerata Carolina has written a travel report about our encounters and experiences with the universities of Mie, Kyoto and Nara, and the concert in Osaka.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all institutions, supporters and sponsors who made this trip possible: Foundation of the Association of German-Japanese Societies and German-Japanese Society Rhine-Neckar, Goethe-Institut, Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation, MLP, Kontrapunkt technology.

The Camerata Carolina is a partner of the German Pavilion during the EXPO in Osaka

A special highlight will be the performance at the World Expo 2025 on the stage of the German Pavilion in Osaka. As an international choir, we are particularly pleased to be part of this multinational forum and to be one of the many program items on stage to show how diverse Germany's cultural heritage is. It is a great honor for us to be able to perform for the Federal Republic of Germany in Japan. The motto “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” fits the purpose of our concert tour - because a profitable discourse on the social coexistence of tomorrow can only succeed in a climate of mutual understanding.

The Heidelberg University Office Kyoto (HUOK)

The HUOK and its coordinator Sabine Schenk provide special support to our university's Camerata Carolina during its concert tour. The 10th anniversary of the liaison office is an appropriate occasion for the Camerata's cultural program in Kyoto.

The liaison office is the point of contact for a wide range of questions and is always a great help in solving tasks of all kinds. Many thanks, dear Schenk!

Our thanks also go to Dr. Mark Fischer, who supports us with the German-Japanese university consortium HeKKSAGOn.

Find out more on the HUOK website. More detailed information regarding the program can be found here.
