Meeting point: Lion's Fountain on University Square

The University of Heidelberg is the oldest university in Germany and its buildings have decisively shaped the city. This tour into the heart of Heidelberg will surprise you with interesting stories about the history of the cityscape. Our tour will begin at the former student detention room, the Karzer. A time travel will bring us directly into the 19th century… We will have a closer look at the buildings around the University Square, the former Jesuit quarters. After a side trip to the university buildings at the Neckar river banks which marked the city boundary in the Middle Ages we will return to the University Square. At the “New University” building we will arrive in the 20th century. At the end of the tour with coffee and cake there will be time for further questions on the university, its buildings, and the project “Science Atlas of the University of Heidelberg”.
