​All degree programs at the Institute of Political Science have admission requirements.

PhD

Admission to the PhD program is conducted by the Faculty for Economics and Social Sciences. Admission will only be granted to prospective PhD candidates whose proposed doctoral projects have been approved and accepted by a professor at the faculty (“Doktorvater” / “Doktormutter”). Please note that acceptance into the program does not imply financial assistance. The PhD candidate and his/her advisor will agree upon a so-called “PhD agreement,” which allows the PhD candidate to apply to be accepted as a doctoral student at the faculty. Students must enroll as a doctoral student at Heidelberg University.
