Exquisite choral music in the auditorium of the Old University (Heidelberg)
Camerata Carolina was honoured to cooperate with the Glee Club of the University of Notre Dame (USA)! Our concert "Exquisite Choral Music" took place on Thursday, 06/08/2023 (Corpus Christi) at 8 pm in the auditorium of the Old University of Heidelberg.
Since 1915, the Glee Club of the University of Notre Dame has been one of the most recognized men's choirs in the U.S. academic choral scene. With a history of more than 100 years, it is also one of the oldest university-based glee clubs in the United States. Over 2000 young men have sung in this choir, which currently consists of approximately 75 members. The choir has always combined the rich tradition of the University of Notre Dame with musical excellence.
In the Old University Auditorium, Camerata Carolina and the Glee Club presented a diverse program of music by Mendelssohn, Hovland, de la Torre, Gershwin, Lennon/McCartney and more. There also was a world premiere of a work for the rare instrumentation of mixed choir plus male choir! Daniel Stowe and Franz Wassermann, both of whom have been active on the international choral scene for many years, conducted.
Daniel Stowe has been a faculty member at the University of Notre Dame since 1993. In addition to the Glee Club, he conducts both the Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra and the Notre Dame Collegium Musicum and teaches conducting, aural training, and music history, among other subjects.
Franz Wassermann is music director at Heidelberg University and has been artistic director of Capella Carolina and Camerata Carolina since 1993. He has rich experience as a choral and orchestral conductor, is a guest conductor in various European countries and has trained numerous students in workshops on conducting, singing and music interpretation in Germany and abroad.
