Around 80 active members coming from different countries make up the Capella Carolina’s “Large Choir”. International students who may not yet speak German very well will quickly find new friends in this multicultural mosaic. Foreign and German students alike, as well as friends of the ISZ, have the possibility to experience German culture through music. Many choir members have developed new friendships that often continue even after the international students have returned to their home country.
Every semester, we work on a large, usually an oratorical work. Examples from previous semesters include: Handel’s “Messiah”, Rossini's "Petite Messe Solenelle”" or Mendelssohn's "Elias” (other examples). Choir rehearsals are intensive yet maintain a friendly atmosphere. The choir director, who has a background in vocal training, focuses on vocal technique in every weekly choir practice.
During winter term 2017/18 the Capella will be working on one of the best known works of musical Romanticism: Dvořák’s “Stabat Mater” for soloists, choir and orchestra.
More information on our next concerts can be found here.

Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 8 pm to 10 pm at the Max-Weber-Haus (Ziegelhäuser Landstraße 17). Each semester, the choir meets during a weekend as well as at one additional rehearsal day to work on the pieces more intensively and to party – the ideal place to get to know one another better. Rehearsals for the coming summer term will start on April 5, 2018. New Members will be greeted by the choir director on this Thursdays just before this first rehearsal at 7.15 p.m. in room 106 at the Max-Weber-Haus (first floor). Don’t worry – you won't have to do a singing tryout all on your own. All new members coming to rehearsal for the first time are expected to sing a piece together.
