Carmen Wintergerst completed her undergraduate studies in European Studies with a focus on political science and a minor in English at the University of Passau in 2017 before working in the Irish tourism industry for a year. She completed her master's degree in political science at Heidelberg University in December 2020. Since January 2021 she has been a doctoral candidate at Heidelberg University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Aurel Croissant. Her doctoral project examines the influence of civil society actors on contemporary autocratization processes in Southeast Asia.
Her research focuses on contemporary democratization and autocratization processes, as well as autocratic institutions and the influence of civil society actors and non-violent mass mobilization on processes of democratization and autocratization.
Carmen Wintergerst has been working as a student/research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the chair of Prof. Dr. Croissant since April 2018. More information can be found in the résumé.
