Camerata Carolina Performs Bach’s B Minor Mass

Press Release No. 1/2009
1 07 2009
Concert on 4 July in Peterskirche church – A must for music-lovers
Bach’s B minor Mass is unique in many respects. One critic (H. Nägeli, 1818) even went so far as to call it “the greatest musical artwork of all time and of all nations”. Heidelberg University’s Camerata Carolina choir will be performing this gloriously resplendent and hugely complex masterpiece on Saturday, 4 July 2009 in Heidelberg’s Peterskirche church. Last year the choir won diplomas in gold and silver at the international Riva del Garda choral competition, reason enough to look forward to this concert with the highest expectations.

The choir will be joined by four outstanding soloists: soprano Eleonore Marguerre (Weimar), contralto Yvonne Albes (Würzburg), tenor Uwe Stickert (formerly of Heidelberg’s Municipal Theatre) and bass Markus Lemke (Heidelberg). The orchestral part is entrusted to the Camerata Viva of Tübingen, an ensemble specialising in the performance of Bach’s works. The concert will be conducted by Professor Franz Wassermann.

The very reasonably priced tickets (students, please note!) are available in advance from the offices of the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung, Hauptstraße 23, Heidelberg, phone: 06221/163083, or at the concert venue itself from 7 p.m. (Peterskirche church, Plöck 70, opposite the University Library).
