Theology assessed for the first time: Heidelberg University placed first across Germany and among the 20 best universities worldwide
Having been ranked for the first time, Theology at Heidelberg University has achieved a top place internationally, coming in 13th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, which appeared today. Together with the University of Tübingen, Heidelberg heads the list in Germany. Medicine at Heidelberg University has also achieved the top position nation-wide (worldwide 42nd) along with Law (worldwide 39th). Another top place goes to Sports-related Subjects at Heidelberg University, for which there is no international ranking.
Heidelberg University is also excellently ranked in other subjects. In the Humanities it is among the best universities worldwide in Archeology (32nd), Philosophy (35th) and Modern Languages (45th). In the subject area Life Sciences, besides Medicine, Heidelberg likewise merits a top position internationally (41st) in Bio Sciences. In the Natural Sciences, its Physics and Astronomy subjects are placed 35th at the international level.
The subject rankings published on 8 March 2017 are primarily based on data collected by QS World University Ranking. The indicators for the individual subject rankings derive from interviews with academics and employers, and from analysing citations.
