“It Was an Honour to Be Trained under Two Excellent Neurointensivists”

Rosales Maritoni

Dr. med. Maritoni Rosales, Medic at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, Philippines
From November 2013 to February 2014 Fellow at the Neurocritical Care Unit at Heidelberg University Hospital

Why did you decide to come to Heidelberg University?

I knew that my international rotation in the neurocritical care at Heidelberg University Hospital will be of great help for my exposure to current best medical practices and world standard neurocritical care set up/facilities. As planned, our advocacy is to help the developing countries such as Philippines to gain access to current medical practice in acute brain injuries.

What were your experiences in Heidelberg?

It was an honor  to be trained under two excellent neurointensivists who are both active in the advocacy of the neurocritical care organization worldwide – Prof. Dr. Werner Hacke and Dr. Julian Boesel. The hospital staff and the library staff are very helpful as well especially in my research. I had a comfortable apartment which was very near the hospital giving me an easy access, with nearby cafes.  My stay was very convenient. And during the weekends, the Alumni organized group trips for international students. We get to see a lot of places and meet new people. It made our stay more fun.

How did your career continue after your time in Heidelberg?

Currently I am an affiliate consultant in neurocritical care in two hospitals in the Philippines and we continue to provide world standard quality patient care by utilizing the best medical practices for acute neurological disorders that are consistent with current scientific knowledge in neurocritical care while being mindful to respect and be compassionate to the patient's plight.

Do you recommend a research visit to Heidelberg University to your students or to colleagues in your scientific network?

Yes, definitely.

How do you rate the opportunities offered by Heidelberg Alumni International and the Research-Alumni Network?

Excellent!
