Ideal Educational Opportunities

2 June 2008

After studying history in the United States, I was looking for a way to expand my understanding of history and my knowledge of foreign languages. The University of Heidelberg is an old and renowned institution and this is the reason I am here

Before I came to Heidelberg, I had already gathered information about the University and the Studentenwerk (Student Services) online. My former lecturers and fellow students also knew the university. So I was well prepared.

The University of Heidelberg is world-famous for its Faculties of History and Philosophy where I am pursuing my studies. In my opinion, the lecturers and specialized libraries here provide ideal educational opportunities.

Besides this, Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university and one of the best when it comes to research. For that reason it is exceptionally well-known in many countries. As a student here you don’t only profit from the excellent teaching staff, you can also make many different social experiences. So Heidelberg is the right choice for many students, including me.

Getting to know other students is easy, as I live in a hall of residence and work at the “InfoCafé International”. Most students in my dorm and my classes are German, so it’s mainly Germans I spend my time with.

Additionally, the Akademisches Auslandsamt (the International Relations Office) can help you find a tandem partner and the university offers many language courses. I think it is best for foreign students to live in a dorm in order to get in touch with Germans. This is the easiest way to learn the language and understand German culture.
