In Heidelberg: John Templeton Award for Theological Promise

On 11 May 2007 the first John Templeton Award for Theological Promise will be presented in the Great Hall of the Old University — 10,000 dollars each for 12 young recipients from all over the world

At 4 p.m. on 11 May 2007 the first John Templeton Award for Theological Promise will be presented in the Great Hall of the Old University in Heidelberg. The award is endowed with 10,000 dollars for each of the 12 young recipients from all over the world in recognition of the promise displayed in their doctoral dissertations or first post-dissertation book publications on the subject of “God and Spirituality”.

The awarding committee of 25 internationally renowned scholars from 19 countries has singled out the recipients in the course of a highly scrupulous selection process. In the next two years the awardees also qualify for additional support of anything up to 10,000 dollars each to cover the travelling costs incurred when universities or similar institutions invite them to come and give lectures.

The recipients have done their research work on religious studies, philosophy, media studies, theology and science, the Old Testament, the New Testament, theological history, theological ethics, systematic and practical theology. The award winners are

• Dr. Lidja Matošević (Croatia)
• Dr. Daniel Munteanu (Romania)
• Dr. Karin Schreiber (Switzerland)
• Dr. Ulrike Vollmer (Germany and Wales)
• Dr. Graham Wood (Malaysia and Australia)
  

After the presentation ceremony there will be a two-day colloquium at the International Science Forum Heidelberg (IWH) on the award winners’ future research projects. Members of the Heidelberg Research Centre for International and Interdisciplinary Theology (FIT) and of the awarding committee will also be taking part.
