RankingUniversität Heidelberg: Successful Placement in Times Higher Education Ranking

Ruperto Carola is ranked among the world’s “Top 50” and one of the top three universities in Germany
Heidelberg University is one of the top three universities in Germany: the 2023/2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings place Ruperto Carola third after the two universities in Munich. Ranking 47th internationally, it is among the world’s “Top 50” – one of only three German universities to earn that distinction, along with Technical University of Munich (30th) and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (38th). In the Europe-wide comparison, Ruperto Carola is placing 14th.
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, published on 27 September 2023, are based on a total of 18 different indicators – five more than in the previous years. They are grouped into five areas of performance. These are, above all, teaching, research and citations. Other areas analysed include aspects of internationalisation and industry. Among the new indicators are research strength, research excellence and research influence as well as studying abroad and patents, which, however, were only partially included in the current overall ranking.
