Event at Heidelberg University: Vice-Rector welcomes visiting scientists and scholars

At the beginning of the new year Heidelberg University will be welcoming its visiting scientists and scholars as well as their families. The festive reception on Monday, 8 February 2024, will also be attended by international guests of the German Cancer Research Center, the Max Planck Institutes in Heidelberg, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies. Also invited are the hosts of the researchers from abroad.

The event will be opened by Prof. Dr Marc-Philippe Weller, Vice-Rector International Affairs and Diversity. Then Prof. Dr Robert Folger, Director of the Käte Hamburger Centre for Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies (CAPAS) of Heidelberg University, will give insight into his research. In his talk in English on the topic of “Mexican Apocalypses: 2023 — 1521 — 14,000 BCE” he will address “apocalyptic scenarios” such as the Spanish conquest of Mexico in 1521, which was followed by the end of the Aztec Empire. Approximately 150 guests are expected to attend the reception in the Great Hall of the Old University.

Heidelberg University has always been international in its scope and is tied into a worldwide network of cooperative research and teaching collaborations. It operates exchange programmes with approximately 460 universities all over the world and maintains 27 university partnerships with universities abroad. In addition, Heidelberg University is involved in a large number of research and teaching ventures at faculty, department and chair levels.
